Professor Geng Tongchao is the chief physician of the Department of Neurology, Taikang Xianlin Gulou Hospital. He was a judge of the National Natural Fund, presided over and participated in many scientific research projects such as the National Natural Fund and Tsinghua University Yuyuan Fund, and was awarded the title of "The Third People's Good Doctor" in 2017.

Director Geng, who witnessed relatives' difficulties in seeking medical treatment when he was young, seems to have a natural empathy for patients. "I am determined to be a good doctor. My previous medical experience has made me more able to look at the problem from the perspective of patients." Since joining the work, Director Geng Tongchao's consistent principle is to "explain more to patients". He patiently explained the patient's questions. "Because patients don't understand, it is even more important to explain them." As a senior expert who has been focusing on neurology for more than 40 years, Professor Geng has made great achievements in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases (Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease). Long-term concern for those female patients who can't get pregnant because of central nervous system immune diseases (multiple sclerosis, neuromyelitis optica, etc.), cordial concern for their physical and psychological state, and successful provision of "birth with disease" treatment scheme for more than 50 such women, Professor Geng was affectionately called "intimate friend" by patients.

Engaged in clinical neurology for more than 40 years, proficient in the diagnosis and treatment of common diseases and frequently-occurring diseases of nervous system, acute, severe and critical patients. Have a deep understanding of neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's disease and epilepsy. He has accumulated rich clinical experience in nervous system immune diseases, such as neuromyelitis optica pedigree and multiple sclerosis, guiding patients to have children with diseases, maintaining treatment for a long time, and preventing recurrence.

Published more than 40 scientific and technological documents.

He is in charge of the project of National Natural Science Foundation "Binding lipoprotein P136-150 to modify antigen and test allergic encephalomyelitis" and the project of Yuyuan Fund of Tsinghua University Medical College "Aquaporin -4 and neuromyelitis optica".

Participated in projects such as "Neurobiological Research on Human Amniotic Neural Stem Cells" funded by National Natural Science Foundation and Capital Medical Development Fund.

He is currently a member of the International Society of Neuroprosthetics, a member of the Standing Committee of the Society of Neuroprosthetics of the National Medical Association, and an expert in writing and reviewing manuscripts such as Life Times and adverse drug reactions journal.

He used to be the judge of the National Natural Fund Project, the chief physician and deputy director of the Department of China-Japan Friendship Hospital.

Won the "Third People's Good Doctor" in 2017

He graduated from China Academy of Medical Sciences, Graduate School of Peking Union Medical College, and obtained a master's degree in clinical neurology from Union Medical College Hospital. In 1992, he was sent to Japan National Institute of Neurology to study immunology for more than three years.

From 1987 to 2004, he served as the chief physician and deputy director of the Department of Neurology of the China-Japan Friendship Hospital of the Ministry of Health, during which he studied and worked in the National Institute of Neurology of Japan for more than 3 years.

From 2004 to 2016, he served as the chief physician and director of the Department of Neurology in yuquan hospital, Tsinghua University, and an associate researcher and master tutor in Tsinghua University.

From 2016 to present, he has served as the chief physician of neurology department of Taikang Xianlin Gulou Hospital.
